Wade's Blanket CAL: Starting March 20th!

Wade's Blanket CAL, hosted by Zooty Owl and Kokopelli Design and starting on March 20th 2015!

I'm beyond excited to present my first CAL (crochet-a-long) to you all and I'm even more excited, that the talented Zelna from Zooty Owl will be hosting this CAL with me. Woohoo!

The CAL starts soon, so it is time to give you some details.

So why "Wade's Blanket CAL"? Wade is a brave little boy undergoing chemo at the moment and while we talked about the CAL some months ago, Zelna told me she would love to make Wade a blanket for comfort. So we decided to name this blanket Wade's Blanket. Above you can see how it will look like in the end, so you can plan ahead on size and colors.

The CAL will be over 16 weeks and we will post a pattern and a photo tutorial on both blogs every two weeks on Friday, sarting March 20th. There will be four square patterns, three stripe patterns and a border. In the end you will have a beautiful blanket in the size you want (depending on how many squares you make and how wide you make the stripes).

The patterns call for DK weight yarn and a 5 mm hook, so get your supplies ready. You can make the blanket from scraps with all different colors or you can, like Zelna and I did, choose a certain colorway.

My choice of colors, like pictured above, was inspired by these two colorways, based on the colors of a peacock.

I will use Stylecraft Special DK (100% acrylic), which is my favorite yarn for making blankets. The idea with winding the yarn on clothespins was shamelessly stolen by Lucy of Attic 24. Makes it so much easier to play with color combinations than having to move around whole skeins of yarn. Plus it looks so neat.

Zelna chose Elle Pullskein yarn in the following colors, as she wanted bright colors in her blanket without it being too busy for little Wade. Also a cute idea making little granny squares to choose colors, isn't it?

So Zelna and I hope to see you for the CAL starting on March 20th 2015. We're looking forward to many people joining us. Choose your colors and get your hooks ready!
